How I Became a Wellness Stylist

My backstory is such a large motivator for me, and one of the main reasons that I became a wellness stylist! Because of my history, I wanted to help others develop a healthy relationship with food and wellness, so that they can live optimally and look and feel their best!

My family has always been “health conscious,” however, when I was younger it wasn’t something that interested me. When I went off to college, I found myself having a free-for-all with food and not really knowing how to eat. The “freshman 15” crept up on me quickly and I didn’t feel good.  I decided to do something about it. I latched onto a friend whose body I wanted to have and quickly learned how to count calories, measure and weigh my food creating this horrible relationship with food. If I felt that I ate too many calories I would exercise for hours.  After a while of these negative habits, they started to take over my life.

I am 5’7″ and quickly dropped to 85 lbs at my lowest.  My family jumped in and rescued me from this mess, setting me up with a team of experts a medical doctor, a therapist and a nutritionist. But my real struggle was connecting with these people. They just didn’t get it. For them, it as a matter of just “eat the cheeseburger,” while for me it was the sense of control in a world of chaos. Although I came back to a much healthier weight where I felt like myself, I always felt that I was missing something. I felt like I was following orders and not listening to myself or my body. It was all so eat “x” amount of this or eat “x” amount of calories. How was following a rigid way of eating living life? It wasn’t. I wanted to learn and discover what foods made me feel my best so that’s when I dove deeper into the wellness world.  I found my passion for helping others and creating a life well lived. I knew my experience could perhaps be helpful to others.

After getting certified in nutrition, I had the privilege of working with some great minds in the industry, and this was my stepping stone to starting my own business. I thought “why not? Give yourself one year.  You can always get a job again if it doesn’t work out.” I hooked up with great referral sources and the business grew from there – sharing my knowledge, teaching people how to listen to their bodies, eating to feel great, sleeping better, living life in a more positive way, everything wellness. I love what I do and looking back on the things I did that I thought were mistakes I know realize I am exactly where I am supposed to be! It has allowed to live my passion and be a coach people who are looking for someone who gets the struggle is real. I want to help you, too!
